Max and Nino, lifelong friends who have known each other since birth, bonded over their shared passions for wine and entrepreneurship. Their story began during a spontaneous road trip through Italy, a country both had long admired for its rich culture and winemaking heritage. As they explored Italy’s picturesque landscapes, from rolling vineyards to charming, historic wineries, they became fascinated by the craftsmanship and tradition of local winemakers.
During this adventure, the idea for Devinita was born – a company dedicated to bringing the special wines of Italy back to the Netherlands. They sought wines that reflect the unique terroirs of the Italian countryside, from lesser-known grape varieties to innovative winemaking techniques. Max and Nino are more than just importers: they have a mission to track down hidden gems of Italian winemaking and introduce them to Dutch wine lovers.
Devinita quickly gained recognition by providing high-quality Italian wines to some of the most prestigious restaurants in the Netherlands, including several Michelin-starred restaurants. Their approach is rooted in sustainability, and they partner with organic wineries to focus on both exceptional wines and a greener future.
The idea for Art is Wine had been quietly taking shape for years. Max, who studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU), has always had a strong connection to the world of art, while he and Nino shared a passion for combining wine with cultural experiences. Their first tastings with Devinita took place in art galleries, and there was even a wine-and-art event in Switzerland that was met with enthusiasm.
Inspired by these beginnings and their shared love of both art and wine, they decided to bring the two together in a broader, more meaningful way. Thus, Art is Wine was born – not just to create elegant tastings in galleries, but to design a variety of experiences where wine, art, cuisine and culture converge.
Today, Art is Wine offers three different event formats: Art is Wine, organized in galleries; Culinary Pairings, in collaboration with restaurants and chefs; and Cultural Experiences, organized in unique locations such as a salon boat on Amsterdam’s canals. Together, these formats reflect the vision of the founders: to create sophisticated experiences where fine wines and creativity come together and offer a new way to connect, discover and enjoy.
At Art is Wine, our mission is to bring people together through a shared appreciation of wine, art and culture. We believe in creating experiences that go beyond tasting or viewing – moments that stimulate the senses, arouse curiosity and enable genuine connection.
Whether an intimate tasting in a gallery, a culinary pairing with a chef or a cultural event in a unique setting, each experience is designed to highlight both the depth of fine wines and the creativity of art.
In a world that often feels rushed and superficial, we offer a chance to pause, reflect and enjoy an experience that nourishes both the mind and the senses. By hosting our events in inspiring spaces, we invite guests to discover the stories behind the wines they taste and the works of art they encounter – cultivating a deeper appreciation for both.
