Colosi

About the winery

Discover Colosi: a family winery on Salina – a picturesque, volcanic Aeolian islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea. For more than four decades, the family has been cultivating and producing authentic Sicilian wines, with deep roots in tradition, terroir and craft.

Family

History

The family history began in the 1970s with Pietro senior, who collaborated with renowned winemaker Carlo Hauner and developed an eye for the potential of Salina's wines. In 1987, his son Piero — trained as an oenologist in Catania — set Cantine Colosi on its modern course. Today, the third generation, with son Pietro (a graduate of San Michele all'Adige) and his sister Marianna, runs the winery, supported by successful sales channels worldwide.

Heroic viticulture

Production

Cantine Colosi cultivates approximately 11–11.5 hectares of vineyards on steep, terraced plots around Capo Faro, Porri and Malfa on volcanic soils, without irrigation — the archetype of “heroic” viticulture. Sicilian indigenous varieties such as Malvasia delle Lipari, Corinto Nero, Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Inzolia and Catarratto grow here. The cellar, partly carved into the ground, guarantees a constant temperature and sustainable construction. In addition to producing around 120,000 bottles of Salina wines, they also produce wines on the mainland from Grillo, Nero d'Avola and other regional grapes.

Tenuta Moraia

Tenuta Moraia is located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, near the historic village of Gavorrano. The estate covers 160 hectares, of which 60 hectares are organically cultivated. Surrounded by rolling hills and Mediterranean vegetation, the winery focuses on crafting contemporary, vibrant wines that express the authentic character of their homeland. Respect for nature and careful vineyard management lie at the core of the estate’s philosophy.

Bastioni della Rocca

Bastioni della Rocca was inspired by the golden era of Frederick II of Swabia, when southern Italy grew into a cultural and commercial center of the Mediterranean. The imposing castles that still dominate the landscape today symbolize a time when winemaking became a driving force of the local economy. The winery pays homage to this historical splendor, with wines deeply rooted in the identity of the South.
